Mt Tamalpais State Park

Stinson Beach Aug 29, 2010
Keen to get warm again we headed north across the Golden Gate Bridge to drive the the section of the iconic Highway 1 route we missed out last time we were here. Highway 1 winds along the coast, just clinging to narrow carved cliffs through Mt Tamalpais State Park. In parts it looked like you could drive straight over and tumble down to the cliffs below – disconcerting. How wonderful to have natural protected area on the doorstep of a large city. Some of the trails and a few of the camp grounds in the park were closed due to recent grass fires in the area. We drove through Mt Tamalpais State Park and Muir Woods and stayed at the small village on Stinson Beach. The ocean looked nice but it was not warm enough to even consider going for a swim.
