New York Blooms

April 21-23, 2015

I may just have gone a bit carried away with photographs of spring blooms. But they were so breathtakingly beautiful I could not help myself.  Moving through the city at street level is really like being in a canyon.  Every now and then a shaft of light illuminates something that catches your eye. For me it was the sight of thousands of street trees in spring bloom. At eye level the city is so human with plants just about everywhere you look. The blooming pots are maintained by an army of city workers who through the night tend to the health of the plants so that they are always looking blooming fresh.

For the first time I ventured away from Manhattan and spent a day in Brooklyn, visiting the Botanical Gardens. And here spring is on full glorious display. I took hundreds of photographs here. Just could not help myself.  By the time I made it back to the city the sky had turned grey and it began to rain. The wind was howling and the air was too cold to breathe.
