Walden Pond

Walden Pond, Concord – April 15, 2015

For a long time I have been inspired by the writings of David Thoreau, an Americal naturalist and philosopher. He lived for two, years, two months and two days in a cabin he built in the woods near Concord and here he wrote his famous novel “Walden- A Walk in the Woods”. Today I went out to visit Walden Pond. While his house no longer stands, the pond is as beautiful as he described. Although the woods are surrounded by a freeway on one side and the commuter rail on the other, it is not difficult to image what the location may have been like in the 1800’s.  The town of Concord is very pretty with beautiful and elegant houses, many decorated to celebrate the glory of springtime, which has finally arrived.  It was overcast and grey when I arrived in Boston yesterday afternoon but today is a glorious sunny day. It is difficult not smile with such great weather. Fingers crossed it lasts until Monday.
