Aspen/Snowmass

Saturday – June, 28, 2014
We were in Aspen for Hammer to take part in the Aspen Backcountry Marathon. We stayed in a ski-lodge in Snowmass for two nights. It was a short 15 minute drive to Aspen. Race started at 6 am and it was freezing cold before the sun came up. Excitement just before the race started when someone sighted a bear around the corner in the residential street the race passed through. Now that was surprising – Aspen with all its sophistication and glamour still bumps up against the wilds of it surroundings.  Hammer had a great time out on the trails finishing around lunchtime.  I  walked the last few miles of the race route and then wandered around town- visiting the Farmers market.  In the late afternoon we visited the spectacular Maroon Bells lake high up behind Aspen.
