The hut we stayed in was really a Bed & Breakfast place. It was like staying in someone’s home. A tall women with two very young kids running around was the proprietor and three other young men, who appeared to be farmhands,  were staying there.  This morning we met her husband at breakfast and realised that the walls were adorned within images of him: skiing, rockclimbing, stepping  into fighter jets and playing the accordion amongst other photos.

We had a comfortable nights sleep and following a breakfast of coffee, bread and jam we were on our way for a walk into Sexten.  We were very happy to have found the Alpse Nemes Hutte last night as most of the terrain once we entered Italy was really not suitable for camping. It was either steep slopes, wild wind, wet and boggy or rocky. As we’ve come to learn the cows always have the best spots and always with a view.

However, we were surprised by the cost for what was a very basic facility with  soup for dinner and basic breakfast. It cost more then the high alpine huts and provided far, far less.

From the hut it was a pleasant walk on a dirt road, through pine forest with stunning Dolomite peaks to our left. Closer to the hut was a large forest conservation area (a Biotope). It was  fenced off, so I guess cows can’t wander in. As we walked on we were passung extensive pine logging areas.

We passed a gondola near a skifield before arriving in a small town, Moso/Moos and after a pleasant walk along a crystal clear  river we arrived in Sexten/Sesto. We checked accomodation prices and were surprised by the cost and availability.  I found what I thought was best value in proximity to where we needed to be.  Hammer baulked at the prices. So we went to the Tourist office who gave a list of hotels with more budget friendly accomodation options..

The Tourist office suggested walking back to Moso/Moos and going directly to the hotel(s), as they were not answering their phone.   So two kilometre walk back only to find everything was booked out. In the end we booked online my  initial pick hotel and we walked back to Sesto. We  were very pleased to get the room early.  Our equilibrium was restored. The town is buzzing with activity. Lots of family groups cycling, hiking, eating out.  A great holiday feeling.

After a shower, laundry and getting some food from the supermarket we spent the afternoon with our feet up, update the blog, watching the Tour de France and grazing.
