PCT DAY 10: Idyllwild -Rest Day # 2
Saturday April 23, 2016: Zero miles day
It was such a treat to wake up at the normal time, just before 5am, and realise I did not have to pack up tent. I snuggled inside my cosy warm sleeping bag and waited for it to get light. I did not want to get up and disturb Hammer who was looking forward to this day.
Most days on the trail so far have been really busy. In the evenings we are either setting up camp, preparing dinner, editing images, updating the diary/blog, preparing for the next day by reading maps and reading water reports. And in the mornings we are busy packing up and heading off before it gets too warm. And in-between we walk, taking breaks on the trail through the day. So it was really nice just not to have to rush.
It was almost 10.30 before we wandered into town for brunch. Such a lovely town. Reminds me of small ski towns. Seems so incredible to think that we are still in the desert. Idyllwild is at elevation of around 5,400 feet, hence the pine trees.

I can’t belive someone thought Hammer looked like Kevin Costner. This guy stopped his car to call out and tell us that.
In the afternoon we had a real treat. We booked a massage with Karen at Idyllwild Massage. It was probably the best massage I’ve ever had. Hammer had his massage after me, and he agreed. And not just because we are sore and tired. She just knew her stuff. We are now rested, restored and ready to hike on.
Hi Stef & Mike – have caught up on the last 5 days and congrats on 100 miles, well done. I love following your journey and your amazing photos. After watching the football yesterday (The Roosters lost again, they have only won one game this season, very sad) anyway we flicked the channel and who should we see, Kevin Costner and no, Mike is “much” better looking…..keep well, Love M xx

Pleased to have your support Maree and John. Shame about the Roosters. Can’t seem to win without Pearce. Won’t be long now. Hammer is very happy to hear that KC is no comparison.
