Sunrise Over San Francisco Bay
Tuesday, May 5, 2015
I feel like I have been away from home for a long time. Boston Marathon was two only weeks ago. On this trip, I missed sharing so many moments with Hammer. Mostly because so many places I visited, apart from Portland, we had also visited together. It is surprising how a place changes depending on whether you are arriving by car or arriving by other modes of transport. On our previous trips, when we were were not camping in National Parks, driving tended to limit our accommodation options to a range of hotel chains which line the highways. This also determined largely the type of dining options. On this trip I stayed in pretty central downtown locations and once my flu eased and my appetite returned, I have enjoyed some of the best meals I have ever eaten here. And almost every city I visited I managed to find fantastic coffee. I am so glad I am going through an omnivore stage at the moment. Portland is probably the standout gastropolis – great quality food, amazing choice of dining options and all at reasonable prices.
So excited to be heading home. I woke early on my departure morning and spent the early hours hoping to see the sunrise over San Francisco Bay. And it did not disappoint. It is the first morning since I’ve been here that there were clear skies without fog. So pleased I made the effort to get out before it got light. Now I am heading back home and back into training. I have not run a step since the marathon but have walked plenty every day. Looking forward to breakfast with my sweetheart.
