Bright Lights

Las Vegas Sept 11,2010
A day in Vegas – what a contrast. It is everything we thought it would be, just bigger. But surprisingly surrounded by mountains and a huge military complex to the north. Box like suburban houses surround the glassy and gaudy high rise, criss-crossed by freeway where traffic moves at a frightening speed. It what be interesting to know the carbon footprint of this anachronistic behemoth. We visited the Mandalay Bay Casino complex where we came across a photo gallery, attracted by a photo of what looked like a Barrier Reef island. We were surprised to learn the gallery displayed works by an Australian landscape photographer, Peter Lik. Never heard of him, but his work was fabulous. Time for us to get back to those fabulous landscapes and leave the bright lights behind.
