Squamish BC Aug 6-8, 2010
Stage II of Hammer & Corky on Vacation – a road tour through BC, Canada. We arrived in Seattle, picked up the rental car and headed north through Vancouver to Squamish, a small town on the Sea to Sky Highway, halfway between Vancouver and Whistler. As we drove through Vancouver on Friday afternoon, the city looked very laid-back with lots of people enjoying the outdoors in the late afternoon sunshine. We look forward to returning and spending some time there on our way back to Seattle. Squamish is mountain climbers heaven – stunning granite peaks circle the town on one side and the ocean and a narrow boat harbour circle the other side. We were in Squamish for a few days as we had entered a trail race – the Stormy 100 & 50 Mile “test of your running metal” trail run. We had entered the 50 mile relay – which meant each us had to run a 40km leg. Race report is on my running blog. We camped near the race start/finish area and over the 3 nights we reconnected with our running life, with no fear of bears – lots of runners and mountain bike riders out on the trails! We met some really nice people and witnessed amazing feats of endurance by those taking part in the 100 mile race. Squamish is a lovely artsy town, in a stunning setting where we could have spent a lot more time. Great spot to stop a while and re-energise for the next stage of our travels.
