FINALLY ON FEATHERTOP

Harrietville – Bungalow Spur Track – Featherop (22km)

Our last day in the Victorian Alps and we finally got to climb Mt Feathertop. What a sensational day it turned out to be. Cool temperature and shaded as we headed from the car park along Bungalow Spur for the 11km trip up the mountain.

The trail is well formed and we progressed up the climb with relative ease. The walking seemed far easier than the walk up Staircase Spur on Mt Bogong. Surprisingly Featherop is only 62m lower than Bogong. We had another close encounter with a snake. Hammer stepped over it and lucky for me I saw it before doing the same. It seemed reluctant to move off the trail. Took a few sticks thrown in its direction  before it moved off.

Once we got above Federation Hut the views opened up towards Razorback and Mt Hotham in the distance,  Bogong Plain across the valley and Mt Bogong in the mist.

Such a stunning view. It is fantastic to see the area we walked through only a few days ago from a different perspective.

Feel so sad to be leaving this behind. But ever so pleased to have another day in the high country.
