AUSTRALIA DAY AT MONA
January 25-26, 2016
So great to be back in Hobart. We are staying at the wonderful Customs House Hotel. An old style pub with modern hotel accomodation. Such a great hotel and so conveniently located, across the road from Constitution Dock and Parliament House with Salamanca Place just across the park. The hotel restaurant was terrific as well, but it seems to depend on the meal. On the first night I had a sensational pan seared pork cutlet served with parmesan crusted potatoes and wilted spinach. Hammer chose a tad dissapointing seafood basket. At least we didn’t have to walk far.
We spent Australia Day at MONA – Museum of Old and New Art. We decided to get the ferry out rather then drive. It allowed us to experience the Museum building, which in itself is a work of art. We spent most of the day visiting the museum, had lunch at Moo Brewery and a wine tasting at Moorilla Estate. The museum did not disappoint. Even though I had visited in September there was still plenty to provoke and engage interest. Hammer loved the diversity of the Museum. I had to drag him out to lunch. We spent a pleasant few hours on the lawn, enjoying the food and the music from the band playing on the green.
Having caught up on the news of the bush fires, that are still burning in the north, it seems we may have to change or hiking plans again. We had planned to walk in the Walls of Jerusalem NP before leaving the island. But that does not seem possible at the moment. We will have to stay close to coast as we head East towards our departure point at Davenport.
