Memories of desert blooms
Super excited to report that Hammer & Corky are soon to be reunited. It has been 9 weeks since I broke my ankle on the PCT in the Russian Wilderness area.
After my Sydney orthopeadic surgeon recommended against having surgery I have been focussed on doing intensive phycial therapy. With the help of my brilliant physio I am off crutches and got out of the moon boot 2 weeks ago. This week my orthopeadic specialist cleared me fit to resume my travels. Wooo hooo…happy days.
I will be flying back to Vancouver next Tuesday, to meet up with Hammer. He should be in Canada this weekend. Hammer will post an update from the trail as soon as he has phone service.

Thank you Dave. Each day my ankle feels a little stronger. I will be returning to the PCT next year to complete the Oregon and Washington sections.

Blasting will cause Delays on Pacific Crest Trail
Date(s): Sep 8, 2016 – Sep 21, 2016
Trail crews from Cle Elum Ranger District are planning to use explosives to remove several large trees that are blocking the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail (PCT) in two locations within the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. These downed logs have rendered the trail impassable to stock and very difficult for hikers. Sawyers have assessed the logs and determined that due to size and location of the trees, they are too hazardous to cut. In these situations, explosives are a good option.
Blasting will take place on the PCT between Spectacle Lake and Lemah Meadow on September 13 and 14, and four miles north of Snoqualmie Pass near Kendall Peak on September 20. The trail will be closed intermittently while blasting operations are active. Hikers and stockmen should be prepared to be stopped by trail guards and wait until the all clear is given. Travel on trail will be allowed when safe to do so. Delays could last up to 45 minutes.

Great recovery and super pleased you will be able yo resume travels immediately. Clare and I completed AV2. I am returning to AU now. Clare started AV1 yesterday. Safe to assume we love the area. Cheers Karl
