VERMILLION VALLEY RESORT

PCT DAY 50:  Rest Day
Thursday  June 2, 2016: Zero Miles day # 4

A much needed day of complete rest. We did walk around in the morning to try and  find phone reception but without much luck.  Wireless connection was available at the Resort for $8/hr or $50/day, which we decided was a bit too expensive. Vermillion Valley is fairly remote with Fresno the nearest large town nearby. So I can understand the expenses  incurred by the operators. We will just to have to wait till we get to Mammoth in two days time, to catch up on all our connections. This will have been my longest stretch ever, without being able to connect to the Internet. I guess we are in the wilderness for a reason. I just wish we was better prepared  so we could have let family and friends know.

VVR is a great location to relax and let the past 11 days  and longer sink in. The rooms are warm, the staff are super friendly and the food is great. It would be easy just to give in and forget that we still have 1,600 more miles to hike.

News is filtering through of a warm spell of weather approaching which will cause a big snow melt. And this may mean big creeks crossings ahead. We have been through too much in the High Sierra to give in now and start to flip-flop on the trail. I guess we will have to deal with whatever the PCT throws at us.
